Join us for a Special Member Spotlight After 5 Cheers Event Series hosted by your Ontario Approved Professionals!
Our Kingston-South Frontenac Division, is excited to be doing a “Member Spotlight” this month. Join us as Stone City Woodworks as we get to learn all about their products and services – there may even be a tour of the shop!
Rob Purvis, Founder of Stone City Woodworks, is a former graphic-designer-turned-master-woodworker who traded pixels for planer shavings back in 2015. What began as a garage hobby making small gifts for friends has grown into Eastern Ontario’s go-to studio for heirloom-quality, solid-wood furniture and bespoke cabinetry. His design background shows up in every project: Rob sketches pieces as functional works of art, then brings them to life with time-honoured joinery, live-edge slabs and the occasional epoxy “river” that would make Mother Nature jealous. Quality over quantity is his mantra, and each commission is built to outlast the trends — and probably your grandkids.
What to look forward to:
- Shop tour & tool talk. Rob will walk us through his production floor at 112 William Henderson Dr., showing how raw Ontario hardwood becomes gallery-worthy furniture and custom kitchens.
- Design-to-delivery demo. See his process from digital concept renderings (thanks, old graphic-design muscles) to precision milling, hand-cut joinery and final finish.
- High-density foam signage: CNC-carved HDU (high-density urethane) signs gives businesses a lightweight, weather-proof alternative to traditional wood—perfect for storefronts, wayfinding, and eye-popping 3-D logos. He’ll unveil prototypes, show the carving process, and pass around a few tactile samples you can’t resist touching.
- Cabinetry corner. Rob’s latest built-ins and space-saving storage features will be staged to spark renovation inspiration.
In short: come for the networking, stay for the sawdust, and leave with fresh ideas (and possibly the irresistible urge to commission that dream board-room table).
